The IASI CH4 and dust aerosols products are developed and distributed by the Infrared Team of the Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (BIRA-IASB).
IASI CH4 DATA

This dataset is generated as part of the ESA GHG-CCI project and still under validation.
The IASI CH4 profiles are delivered in HDF5 format. Daily daytime and nighttime observations are provided in separate files. The HDF files contain CH4 profiles, the retrieval error, the a CH4 priori profiles and averaging kernels. Each individual file is typically 200-260 MB. The retrievals are performed between 60°S and 70°N.
When comparing the IASI CH4 or aerosol product with a high resolution profile (aircraft profiles, model data, lidar profile..), the sensitivity of the (low resolution) IASI profiles needs to be taken into account. This can be done by smoothing the high resolution profile with the IASI averaging kernel :
with
: the smoothed (aircraft or model) profile
: the IASI CH4 a priori profile
: the IASI CH4 averaging kernel
: the high resolution (aircraft or model) profile
Note, the averaging kernel is given in vmr/vmr units.
IASI DUST aerosols PROFILE data
IASI DUST aerosols PROFILE data (LEVEL 2, at IASI pixel resolution) and more about the MAPIR v4.1 algorithm
IASI DUST aerosols AOD and mean ALTITUDE
The IASI dust aerosol product is also available through the Copernicus Climate Data Store, in a limited version containing the dust AOD and the dust mean altitude as daily and monthly averages (level 3 data).
To access that product:
- go to the "download data" section,
- find the algorithm subsection,
- select "MAPIR (Mineral Aerosol Profiling from thermal Infrared Radiances)"
- only then the other selections compatible with that choice will be available.
The interested user will also see other dust aerosols products in the Climate Data Store.
